Proto-Personas & Journey Maps Ingrid Nordberg

My persona and my journey map were centered around a user named GA, a college student studying STEM who wants to read more for fun and wellness reasons but faces obstacles including a lack of time due to a busy course load as well as difficulty concentrating in public spaces. I chose to portray GA as a college student studying STEM in particular because this set of subjects is made up of classes where any readings are likely scientific papers or other related media. This highlights how GA faces a lack of “leisure reading” because, most likely, the papers she reads for class would not represent how she usually spends her free time.

In my journey map, a key insight that stood out was how attached GA is to her phone. She watches TikTok when she wakes up and when she goes to sleep, and her phone also represents a major distraction and thus an obstacle to sustained periods of reading. Additionally, in the journey map, I found that GA’s stress tended to build up throughout the day, and when it becomes evening time where she would ideally like to read, she has no energy to do so.
