We tested our application with two peers from different project teams who were interested in improving their morning routines and reducing morning phone usage in bed. Overall, we were excited about the following positive feedback:
- Users intuitively understood the two alarm system with a list of apps
- This means the premise of the app is good and our onboarding experience is effective
- Users were able to successfully navigate through all flows without much guidance and difficulty.
- Users liked the interface. They felt it was intuitive and simple, not overwhelming
Our first task was having the participant walk through our onboarding flow, which includes creating a username, learning about the two-alarm structure, setting their first pair of alarms, creating a morning app list to be used in between the two alarms, and adding friends if they choose. Our second task was alarm setting – testers have to add a new alarm for a hypothetical “tomorrow morning” as well as creating their morning app list. The 3rd task was turning off the alarms, including browsing through the apps they listed in between alarms. For the last task, we had participants navigate to the page to view their streaks and their friends’ streaks.

Issue: Redundant copy text on one of the onboarding screens. Same wording on two different screens.

Issue 2
App Vertical: Onboarding
Issue: “Select Apps” section sits vertically above the “Set alarms” section on the UI. Users’ eyes are drawn to “Select Apps” before the “Set Alarms” button. However, during onboarding, we want users to set an alarm before selecting apps because setting an alarm is a simpler task.

Plan: Extract “Select Apps” interface to its own independent screen or replace the current “Select Apps” section with a fixed card below the “Add Alarm” button that says “View/Edit App list”
Issue 3
App Vertical: Streaks and Leaderboard
Issue: User eyes glaze over the current streak length display, despite it being written in large text.

Plan: Include the streak calendar visual with the current streak length display on the leaderboard page

Issue: Users consistently skip the affordance to “connect contacts” delaying this action as much as possible.

Issue: Users are unclear as to what is contained in their profile. They would like to know what information is shared on their profile. If they don’t know what is shared, they certainly won’t be comfortable sharing that information.
