BUSINESS: Should We Deploy a Gen AI Salesbot?

Deciding whether to deploy an AI chatbot now or wait isn’t an easy choice, especially when you’re watching the tech world race ahead. From my perspective as a student, I think there are a few really important things to think about—things that could make or break your decision.

First, consider your audience. Do your customers or users actually want to chat with a bot, or do they value human interaction more? I’ve seen plenty of businesses rush to release bots because everyone talks about how “cool” and “cutting-edge” it is, but sometimes people just want to talk to a person who understands their emotional cues. So, it might be smarter to start with a mix like letting users choose whether they want to chat with a bot or a human. This can help ease the transition and ensure you’re not losing trust or loyalty just because you pushed a bot out too early.

Next, think about your goals. Are you trying to cut costs? Improve response times? Or maybe give your team more time to focus on complex tasks? In my experience, the smartest move is to figure out what problems you’re trying to fix and then see if AI really offers a clear advantage. Sometimes, deploying a chatbot without a clear purpose can lead to more frustration for both staff and users if the bot isn’t ready to handle real-world questions or tricky situations. So, starting small, running a pilot, and making sure the bot’s responses are pretty solid before going big feels like the safe, smart way to go.

Lastly, I think about timing and tech readiness. AI is improving insanely fast, but it’s not perfect yet. I’ve seen chatbots give weird answers or miss the point entirely, which can hurt your reputation more than help. Plus, there are privacy issues to think about like people want to know their info isn’t being mishandled. So, I’d suggest waiting until you can do some testing, learn from those interactions, and improve the system before making a full push. That way, when you do go live, you’re more confident it’ll be a helpful, trustworthy tool rather than a source of trouble.
