Preparation Steps:
- Notetaker: Start the recording and/or take notes on paper. Pay attention to long pauses or hesitancy, changes in tone, and enthusiasm.
- Interviewer: Confirm that the recording has started or the notetaker is ready before beginning the usability interview.
Script:
Hi, my name is [name], and I am part of the Armadillo Team. Please interact with our app prototype in a way that feels natural to you; there are no right or wrong answers. We just want to get a sense of your perspective when using our platform organically.
As I said before, there are no right or wrong answers. Please share as little or as much as your feel comfortable with.
We will ask you to perform three separate tasks relating to our prototype. Please think out loud while you perform the task and try to mention 1) the action you are currently making (swiping, searching, what you’re looking at, etc) 2) why you are taking those actions, and 3) anything you find confusing, unclear, or difficult to do during the process.
Background/General Questions:
- What time do you normally go to sleep each night?
- What time would you like to go to in an ideal world?
- How often do you stay up later than you originally planned?
- How do you feel about your current sleep habits?
Task 1 : Create Your Ideal Bedtime Schedule
Notetaker: Start stopwatch and prepare to log task time.
Task Description: Please open our app, get set up as a new user, and set your ideal bedtime schedule. Additionally, view your sleep data based on this schedule.
- What do you think the purpose of our app/prototype is?
- How did you feel about setting your bedtime for the days of the week?
- What was confusing?
- What made sense?
- Is there anything you would like to change in our app to make this process better?
- Is there anything you felt was missing from this flow?
- Was it difficult to find the personalized sleep data?
- What did you think about the messages from Sleep-Pea?
- What information would you have wished to see in the sleep data section?
Task 2 : Join A Sleep Pod
Notetaker: Start stopwatch and prepare to log task time.
Task Description: Open our app and find and interact with a sleep pod. Try to start your pdq Finally, report your sleep time to your pods, and then, sign out of the app.
- What did you think of when you heard the term “sleep pods”?
- What did you think when you found the feature?
- Was it difficult to find sleep pods?
- Did the phrase “Lock In” prompt confusion, joy, neither or somewhere in between?
- Was it difficult to find the sign out mechanism?
- Where did you expect the sign out button to be?
- What was confusing about the layout of the sleep pods?
- What would you have wished to see here?
- Are there any visual indicators that you wished you saw that could better communicate the purpose of this feature?
Task 3 : Visualize Tomorrow System Prompt Response
Notetaker: Start stopwatch and prepare to log task time.
Task Description: Please open our app, get set up as a new user, and then find the visualize tomorrow button. View the simulation and interact with the app as long as desired.
- Does the demo setup make sense?
- If the app was real, would you be willing to answer the check-in questions as the demo prompted?
- How did you feel about the check-in choices? Are they able to accurately cover your different feelings throughout the day?
- Would system prompts sent encourage you to go to bed? If they do, why do you think they encouraged you to go to bed
- Would frequent prompts irritate you or motivate you?
- What would be an ideal frequency or mechanism for convincing you to go to bed?
- Was this experience overwhelming or hard to navigate?
- What would reduce that feeling?
