ETHICS: An Office Romance Gone Wrong

I agree with the second expert in that I believe it doesn’t make sense for Elizabeth to make any life altering decisions regarding her career while she’s still reeling from the situation between Claudia and Brad.

While I also agree with the first expert in that I think she should aggressively pursue other opportunities, beginning this process too early while she’s still struggling emotionally could result in making impulsive decisions that aren’t in her best interest in the long run.

I think if she can find equivalent or better autonomy, upward mobility, and compensation somewhere else, she should take that opportunity. But if she needs to compromise one of those factors, I think she should take time to consider whether or not the transfer will benefit her.

If I were a manager and I found out about this situation, I would be much stricter with regard to keeping the relationship out of the office. As the second expert pointed out, there didn’t seem to be much effort from management to ensure that Brad separated his romantic life from his professional life. While this may not be a sustainable long term solution, I believe that being stricter on the boundary between personal and professional life in the short term would allow Elizabeth sufficient time to emotionally recover, which would increase the odds of reconciliation between Elizabeth, Claudia, and Brad in order to avoid any complications at work.
