Screener and Baseline Study Outline – Team Armadillo

This is a link to a Google Doc version of this assignment.

Target User Group:

Our target user group is Gen Z students (ages 14 to 29) seeking to improve their bedtime schedule and routine. We are interested in examining the phenomenon “Revenge Bedtime Procrastination”, when a person intentionally delays going to sleep to reclaim personal time they feel they didn’t get to enjoy during the busy day.

Screener:

We will screen for our ideal participants using a specialized form. This form will inquire about the subject’s sleeping habits, availability, and late night device use. While many individuals will fill out this screener form, we will filter using the form responses to select ~8 participants for our 5-day diary study.

Week-Long Diary Study Design:

From Tuesday, January 20th, 2026 to Saturday, January 24th, study participants will be given access to a personal Google Sheet document where they will create diary entries two times each day. At night time, starting at 10:00PM, participants will write down what they are currently doing in 30 minute intervals until the time when they fall asleep. The following day, at 12:00PM, participants will log information reflecting on their current feelings regarding their quality of sleep the night prior and the business of the previous day. This includes questions such as “How rested do you feel today?”, “On a scale from 1–5, how busy was your day yesterday? (5 being extremely busy)”, “When do you think you fell asleep yesterday?”, , “What time do you wish you fell asleep yesterday?”, and “Is there anything you would have done differently last night?”.

Here is a template of the daily diary we will have testers fill out.

Create a Data Collection Plan:

Data collection will occur through the Google Sheets document our participants fill out each day. We will provide participants with a template of the daily diary to guide their data collection. We will have access to these documents throughout the duration of the study and will able to compile/review data every day. For the duration of the study, we will send out text message reminders to our participants at 12:00PM and 10:00PM each day.

Study Materials:

The materials necessary for our diary study include our introduction document, which introduces our participants to the study, our discussion guide, which is a guide for our participants’ diary entries, and our introductory and closing emails, which will be sent to all participants at the beginning and end of the study, respectively.
