Should We Deploy a Gen AI Salesbot?

After reading “Should We Deploy a Gen AI Salesbot?”, my first reaction was that PulsePoint is not choosing a chatbot. It is choosing its identity. The whole decision feels less like a tech question and more like a relationship question. And relationship questions are rarely solved by rushing.

Jeannie, the CEO, is fairly easy to relate to. I have felt the same spark she describes, a mix of excitement and relief when a new technology finally feels game-changing. Her enthusiasm makes sense. But the people around her are calling out something important. Her sales lead is afraid of losing the subtle, personal moments that help a rep catch an upsell opportunity. Her chief customer officer is thinking about brand trust and the emotional weight of layoffs. And the biggest warning of all comes from Orion, the client who simply says, “Please leave us out of this.” That is the kind of comment no leadership team can afford to ignore.

Because of all that, I think PulsePoint should wait on deploying a customer facing salesbot. They should still move forward with AI, but in a way that is quieter and more strategic. For example, AI could draft responses to proposals, brainstorm campaign ideas, or help reps prepare for calls. This is exactly the kind of internal support that Jim Lecinski talked about in his commentary. It improves margins without risking customer trust, and it gives the team hands-on practice with the technology.

At the same time, Dharmesh Shah is right that waiting too long is a different kind of risk. AI is improving incredibly fast, and companies that hesitate forever will fall behind. But moving thoughtfully is not the same thing as moving slowly. PulsePoint can build systems, skills and comfort internally while keeping actual customer interactions human for now.

A gradual rollout feels like the most human path forward. Start inside the walls of the company. Let people learn how the technology behaves, let the rough edges show up in a safe place, and then open it up to customers once everyone is ready. When that moment comes, PulsePoint can introduce a chatbot that always has a human in the loop.
