Would you accept a job at Facebook?

Would you accept a job at Facebook? For me, it comes down to the question presented in the article,”how close is my work to those actions I believe are wrong?” Many institutions are ethically flawed, but have not been exposed yet. I don’t believe that it is more ethical to naively work for an organization that you hope is more correct than it is to work for an organization where you are empowering ethically conscious decisions. If my work is going against the unethical elements in an organization, then there is truly benefit for the world when I continue what I am doing. Of course, I would not want to further the actions that I believe are wrong, but being aware of these faults and working towards avoiding them in the future is better than incorrectly being under the assumption that the organization you work for is perfectly ethically aligned.

Additionally, the kind of unethical behavior is what would skew my perception of the organization for which I am working. The article mentions exploitation of workers, exploitation of consumers, environmental exploitation, and ethically dubious missions. I would draw the line for myself at exploitation of workers and consumers. If the company I am working for is knowingly exploiting workers or consumers for their own benefit or profit, I would be heavily disenchanted with the mission of the company – no matter what it is. While the other forms of unethical behavior are also very significant, I would be most against supporting an organization that tears individual people down.
