An Office Romance Gone Wrong

As much as I would want Elizabeth to stay and fight for the respect she deserves in this company, I think I agree with the expert that the best move for her currently is to seek opportunities somewhere else. I think it’s unfair how she has been treated and that she deserved better in this situation, especially given the treatment is coming from her male co-worker who is clearly creating a hostile environment not only for Elizabeth but for other workers too who might think that something similar could happen to them. However, I think that this should have been prevented even before it happened by the company setting rules and regulations regarding any form of romance in the workplace. Such should then ensure that no parties involved can create a hostile environment for other parties or interfere with work as other workers in any way. Having said that, I think here it shows that this company is lacking such regulations. Phrases indicating a culture “in which people at or below her level are ‘managed,’ while C-suite executives are free to act as they please.”  support my argument here. I therefore think it would be very hard for Elizabeth to get what she deserves, and she should prioritize mental well-being by leaving the company.

As a manager, my first step would be to ensure Elizabeth’s well, ensure that she feels heard and cared for. I would make sure to remind her of all the amazing things she has accomplished for the company and that we will still sing her praises even if she decided to go somewhere else. Ensuring that she understands that I want what is best for her would be my priority. However, I would need to find a way to ensure that the company’s productivity and general environment are not hindered by the other parties involved (Brad and Claudia) feeling dissatisfied. I would therefore also have constant conversations with them to ensure I am fully away of how the whole situation is unfolding.
