PSP 4: Three Value Propositions

All three of Granola, Otter, and Fireflies are pretty similar in terms of what they actually do (transcribe meetings and generate notes), but I thought it was interesting how differently they market themselves.

Granola seems more targeted toward individual users. One thing they emphasize is that there’s no bot joining your meeting and your notes stay private. I think a big part of the value here is just making note-taking feel less awkward or intrusive (emotional value: reduces anxiety).

Otter seems more focused on teams and businesses. Their website talks a lot about saving time, integrating with tools like CRMs, and enterprise security. The value is more functional, since they’re trying to help companies be more productive while reducing risk.

Fireflies is pretty similar to Otter in terms of its audience, but I noticed they put even more emphasis on security and compliance, like SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA. I think they’re really trying to appeal to companies that care about keeping their meeting data secure (reduces risk).

Personally, I’d probably choose Granola since I’m mostly just looking for something to help me take notes without having a bot join every meeting.
My biggest takeaway was that even when products have almost identical features, they can differentiate themselves by focusing on different customers and what those customers actually care about. It’s something I’d want to think about when building my own products too, rather than just focusing on adding more features.
