Individual Reflection, Pitch Presentation – Mathias Becerra

As I think about our pitch presentation for Soup and Bread, I feel like we received valuable feedback from our mentors and judges on how it could help us shape our direction in a meaningful way for our final presentation. The pitch in general, helped us come together on a clearer solution and think differently about how to tell our story. At the beginning our creative idea strayed a bit from the original problem statement, but now that we had the opportunity to revise and improve after the feedback was especially useful!

The feedback from the panelists helped us narrow down to one specific customer group, which we hadn’t quite gotten there due to too many ideas in our brainstorming, as well as rephrasing our ideas  and be more specific, in our case, expanding urban Oregon and focusing on young professionals I believe we have now have learned that these can have a large impact on how investors see our concept.

I led the introduction of our team,  project idea, business problem, and strategy. Initially, I talked about all of those last 3 in one slide during our pitch, but after talking as a team, we decided to separate these into three slides and create separate, but similar, narratives to frame each idea. That small change (at least in my perspective) made the flow feel natural and allowed each idea to breathe a little more (thanks to the feedback our mentors) Last, presenting Soup & Bread in itself was a good exercise in presenting, it reminded me of how important storytelling is to product management, not just to highlight all of the awesome work, but to also help the audience see your vision and the story behind it in each step.
