Personas & Journey Maps – Phone Scrolling (Team 12)

In our baseline diary study, we studied 7 users over the course of five days to learn about how much they inadvertent scroll on certain social media platforms, the factors that prompt them to pick up and later put down their phones, and how they feel after they were done using their phone. While our participants used a variety of platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc., we noticed there were overlapping reasons and motivations that ultimately led them to scroll on their phone in their down time. After reviewing and synthesizing our results from the diary study, we came up with 3 main personas: Curious Carl, Dobby, and Social Sally. We thought that these three personas encapsulated the most common behaviors that we noticed from our participants, and we wanted to explore more into these viewpoints. In addition, we have also created journey maps for each persona to better showcase our findings in a more visual format.
