I would take a job at Facebook because in my opinion, they are not doing something egregiously horrible to society. They simply are not evil enough for me to consider not working there. If the company was TikTok or Exxon or Marlboro, I would have more qualms but in my opinion, Facebook as a whole is net positive, if not net neutral, for the world and I am okay with working there. Ideally, I would love being on a team that is not actively harming the world but even if I was, I would consider the fact that is a stepping stone in my career, my irreplaceability as an early career employee is low, and that my decision to work or not work would not have any reasonable impact on the team’s evil outcome.
